About this podcast

So(i)lid Science – the podcast about science and people with a certain focus on soils. We, Carlos Guerra and Romy Zeiss, are chatting with our diverse group of guests about their subjects. Every month, we explore new topics and research developments to extent our knowledge about ecology in a casual way. Enjoy!

The hosts

Carlos A. Guerra

Carlos is one of the SoilBON coordinators. His research interests are with nature conservation of soil biodiversity, scenarios modelling and ecological monitoring. Currently, he is leading an European project related to the identification of the major research gaps in soil research in support of the next funding stage of the European research program. Also a proud father and savvy boardgame player.

Romy Zeiss

Romy, now being a PhD student in the Experimental Interaction Ecology group at iDiv*. Her PhD project is funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) and tackles the question of how to protect soil biodiversity in three steps: what (mapping soil biodiversity), where (identifyng priority areas), and how (review management practices). Romy loves boardgames and her favorite plant is Equisetum. In the past, Romy worked with earthworms that we collected in Canada (bachelor thesis) and Portugal (internship). But she is interested in all kinds of organisms and in (soil) ecology, nature conservation, biodiversity, spatial analysis, and especially in Open Science, Science Communication and Data Management.
